About us

Cardamom Trio is a space for creating soundscapes inspired by different elements such as rhythms, modes, and instruments from various cultures of the East.

The project emerged as an evolution of the previous group Darawish, which had two more members (saxophone and double bass), and experimented with other styles and sounds like Jazz, Maghrebi music, Greek, and Turkish music… culminating their work with the recording and release of the album “Madar” in 2020.

The desire to return to a simpler format, to a more intimate atmosphere, while respecting tradition with an updated sound, has been our guide in charting a new path. After many years of working together on different musical projects, from the world of entertainment to fusion music, various types of traditional music, and sharing roads and stages, a spectrum of musical colors, and engaging in endless conversations about music, the world, and our personal lives, the idea of this project gradually emerged naturally and solidly.

Seeing what we can contribute more personally to the world of ethnic music, searching for our musical identities as individuals and as a group. We believe that roots music goes beyond the “exotic,” being a living music that classical music, jazz, blues, and other styles have drawn from.

We have begun to work on our experiences with the aim of developing our own language. We’ve turned our rehearsal space into a laboratory, experimenting with all the elements we’ve grown up with, sometimes taking a traditional rhythm out of its environment and placing it in a new one, or using an instrument like the oud to play a kind of riff, a harmonic line, or a bass line.
